What a great Cuesta Park Halloween. First thanks to Kavita Aiyar for pulling together the 1-page Cuesta Connections that outlined suggestions for having a COVID safe trick or treating experience. Then thanks to Karin Stein for organizing a house decorating contest and Kim Merry for making the list of 29 participating families and a Halloween Map.
After collecting and counting the donations from the participating houses, Karin declared the Wilcox house at 784 Hans the winner of the "most money" prize with $212, and the Donahues at 1158 Nilda as the winner of the "coin weight" prize with $134.68. A total of $423.68 was raised for CSA to go along with Sarah Donahue's record-setting 10,000 pounds plus of food collected from the neighborhood.
As expected, attendance was way down compared to last year, but still a good turn out. At the Van Mell household we had 90 compared to 223 last year. Trick or Treaters tapered off after 8:00 pm, but we had a bit of an "after-party" when several adult neighbors gathered to critique the evening over a cup of wine. Included in the 8 person, 3 dog, crowd were Gabriele Hilberg and daughters Sophia and Mira from the far end of Gretel Lane. They didn't get much traffic there. Sophia described carving a landscape design that circled the whole pumpkin -- enjoy the beautifully creative result in the short video clip below. Mira got a Snow pumpkin and pureed it to make a pumpkin pie from scratch and roasted the seeds for snacks.
So enjoy the pictures from a great Cuesta Park Halloween.
