What a wonderful Neighborhood! We had a great turnout of 22 families with 61 people and 8 dogs.
The food reflected our Green, White, Red theme and, as usual, there was plenty for everyone. Best of all was the range of participants from George Jacob 87 down to infants, with lots of kids playing on the grass and kicking balls around. We had several new families that were welcomed into the group too. Hope to see them many times again.
A continuing "Thank You" to George Jacob for picking up, delivering and returning the tables, and to Doreta Strotman for adding hers.
But here's the rest of the story. When George went to start his truck at the end to load all the gear, it balked at starting, but finally did. Then we drove a long block to Doreta's house to drop off her table, and when George tried to start up again to go a few houses to my house it was dead as a door nail. Since the truck was partly blocking Doreta's driveway, I tried to push it at least beyond the driveway, but couldn't get more than a foot. So I walked two houses down and asked Thomas Rocznik, who had just gotten home for the potluck himself, to help push. By the time we got back to the truck George was getting out because he thought there might be a loose connection at the battery. Sure enough when I wriggled the cables, we got a spark but the cable connector was quite corroded.
While we were figuring this out, newcomer family member Yui Onuki and her 3 kids stopped to ask if we knew where another first-timer Eric Anderson lived. She had been told he had picked up a left-behind cell phone that she hoped was hers. I had a copy of the BPMDS List and gave it to her, pointing out that Eric was on Lola, two blocks down Barbara. She was very happy to have such good support in the 'hood.
Meanwhile, Thomas had gone home and returned with a socket set and a Dremel. With me holding three wires and Thomas cleaning them and the cable clamp, the whole rig was soon ready to try. With the sun long set and the clock past 8:45 pm, George got in, turned the key, and the truck roared to life. We dropped off the last of the gear at my house and George headed home.
When I got to my email about 9:30 there were two messages from Eric Anderson. First, that he had picked up a cell phone and gave his cell phone number so he could be reached. The second, sent 15 minutes later, was that Yui had just picked up the phone at about 8:15.
All well, that ends well.
Here's the list of participants as best we got it. Enjoy!
