CPNA Picnic 9-21-13
Great it was and fun it was -- rain included. By rough guess about 65 folks ventured out to Cuesta Park to gobble hot dogs and sides and desserts brought by neighbors. Your dedicated volunteers got lucky by setting up before the rains came, and more lucky to be cleaning up in a break in the rain. But this epic event (why folks are already talking about wearing T Shirts saying, "I survived the 2013 Picnic.") will go down as the first that ever had rain. Now with that set up, it's time for a few fun quotes:
"Neither Rain, Nor Snow, Nor Dark Of night," is one thought for those intrepid souls who came forth for the CPNA picnic on a day with record rainfall for September 21st (.49 inches!)
A more eloquent speech, perhaps might have been given by Mayor John Inks who came by with umbrella in hand, patterned after Shakespeare's King Henry V's exhortation for victory in battle. Just substitute Bubb Park Picnic for Crispin Crispian, and those who attended as "we few, we happy few," and those that got wet as "he to-day that sheds his blood with me," and those who didn't show up as "gentlemen in England now a-bed:" :
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.
Enjoy the pictures!
