To thank our CPNA CERT leader Hugo Penafiel and celebrate the most sunlight for a 1st-of-the-month call in, the following email was sent to our CERT team -- except for Hugo:
Our dedicated, skilled and talented CERT Czar, Hugo, has rallied the neighborhood for years. It's time to surprise him with a FLASH MOB!
Here's the deal. Sunset on Tuesday, July 1st is about 8:35, so there's tons of light for a party!
If we're all at either the Leona gate, or the Bubb School side at 7:55 PM, we can all start walking toward the CERT Trailer at exactly 8:00 when Hugo starts his radio announcement. As he gets to calling for Block IDs, we will be walking right toward the trailer and converge for a party right on the grass. Bring cookies, fruit, kids and dogs, hey, bring neighbors too.
What a fun way to celebrate the brightest CERT call-in night of the year.
I've copied Lynn Brown and Jerry Haag and maybe they can come and toast Hugo too. Hugo regularly leads the "Neighborhood Assessment" section of all CERT Field Day graduation exercises, and also helps teach the Spanish CERT Classes.
So, do this. Find your FRS radio. Turn it on and check if the battery icon is full -- if it's not, replace the batteries. (If you need help, just ask.) Then place your FRS radio right in the middle of your dining table so you won't forget. Tell the kids and SO that you're all going out for a walk on Tuesday evening. Then come and make it happen. Frisbees, soccer balls, boom boxes (does anyone still have one of those?!) are all welcome.
Come; have fun; and chill; -- Tuesday evening 8:00 sharp! (Remember, it's a SURPRISE for Hugo, so don't tell!)
At best count, 34 people and 10 dogs showed up for a perfect evening as the sun ws setting. The breeze was cool, the friendships warm, the treats delicious, and a special thanks to Hugo, and all of the volunteers that participate in the CPNA-CERT activities to help us prepare for emergencies and help each other out in a time of need.
